SATAN FESTIVAL 2024 [ISL] - Review

place for the first time in Stykkishólmur, a quaint town of 1200 inhabitants on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. The festival is characterized by the presence of the best Icelandic metal and hardcore bands, as well as a careful selection of international bands.

The opening was attended by Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson, the president of Iceland who made the presentation of the festival.
Even though this 2024 edition was the first, the high level of the organization was evident, which ranges from the intelligent choice of location to the running of the festival itself.
In fact, the festival was hosted in a sports facility a stone's throw from a campsite with impeccable services as well as a well-stocked supermarket, making the stay pleasant.
The experience within the festival area was even better thanks to the high level of equipment and the work of qualified crew, making it possible, among other things, set changes in about 20 minutes.
It is no coincidence that the organizers already come from this sector: Gísli Sigmundsson was passionate about metal from the age of six and dedicated almost 50 to music, entering and leaving bands and organizing concerts, and Birkir Fjalar Viðarsson the frontman of the legendary band I Adapt.

Among the highlights of the festival we can list a surprise cover of the song "King" by Satyricon performed by the hardcore band Gaddavír of which the same singer then joined I Adapt for a while, then the amazing performance of the black bands Auðn and Misþyrming, the presence of the drummer Hellhammer from Mayhem with the band Arcturus, then at the end the performance of the historic Icelandic rock band Ham which caused many mosh pits in the crowd.

In the meantime, the line up for 2025 has already been released and tickets are already available.
As the organizers themselves say "The plan is to hold the festival every year as long as we have support or until we die."

Sátan è un festival metal di tre giorni che prende luogo per la prima volta a Stykkishólmur, una caratteristica cittadina di 1200 abitanti sulla penisola di Snæfellsnes. Il festival è caratterizzato dalla presenza delle migliori band metal e hardcore islandesi, nonché di una accurata selezione di band internazionali.

All'apertura ha partecipato niente di meno che Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson, il presidente dell'islanda che ha fatto la presentazione del festival.

Nonostante questa del 2024 sia stata la prima edizione non si è potuto fare a meno di notare l'altissimo livello dell'organizzazione che va dalla scelta intelligente della location, allo svolgimento del festival in sè.

Infatti il festival è stato ospitato in una struttura sportiva a due passi da un campeggio con servizi impeccabili oltre a un fornito supermercato rendendo gradevole la permanenza.

L'esperienza all'interno dell'area festival non è stata da meno grazie all'alto livello delle apparecchiature e al lavoro di personale qualificato rendendo possibile tra l'altro cambi palco in circa 20 minuti.

Non a caso gli organizzatori provengono già da questo settore: Gísli Sigmundsson si è appassionato al metal dall’età di sei anni e ne ha dedicati quasi 50 alla musica, entrando ed uscendo dalle band e organizzando concerti, e Birkir Fjalar Viðarsson il frontman della leggendaria band I Adapt.

Tra gli highlights del festival si possono elencare una cover a sorpresa del brano "King" dei Satyricon effettuata dalla band hardcore Gaddavír di cui lo stesso cantante ha poi affiancato gli I Adapt, la strepitosa esibizione dei gruppi black Auðn e Misþyrming, la presenza del batterista Hellhammer dei Mayhem con la band Arcturus, poi in chiusura l'esibizione della storica rock band islandese Ham che ha provocato molti poghi tra la folla.

Nel frattempo è uscita già la line up per il 2025 e sono già disponibili i biglietti.

Come gli organizzatori stessi affermano "Il piano è di tenere il festival ogni anno finché avremo sostegno o fino alla morte".
